Born in Osasco (São Paulo) in 1975, Alexandre Silvério is one of the rare bassoonists in the world to masterfully navigate both the Classical and Jazz universes. Currently the Principal Bassoonist of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP), his career has been shaped by a relentless pursuit of technical excellence and creative freedom.
His musical journey began early, influenced by his father, starting piano lessons at the age of 6. At 15, after listening to a record by flutist Michala Petri featuring the legendary Klaus Thunemann, Alexandre discovered his true passion. The sound of the German master became his greatest inspiration and, years later, his academic destiny.
He began his bassoon studies with Gustav Busch and Francisco Formiga, performing with key ensembles such as the Orquestra Experimental de Repertório and the São Paulo State Wind Band. At 20, a chance encounter with Charlie Parker’s Omnibook sparked a new interest: Jazz. What started as a search for new technical etudes transformed into a parallel career, leading him to study improvisation with Roberto Sion and Hudson Nogueira.
At 22, Alexandre won the audition for Principal Bassoon of OSESP. In 1999, he was awarded a scholarship from the Vitae Institute to study at the "Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler" in Berlin, Germany, under his hero, Klaus Thunemann. His time in Germany was further distinguished when he joined the Berlin Philharmonic Academy (Karajan-Akademie), studying with Markus Weidmann and attending classes with masters such as Stefan Schweigert. In Berlin, he had the privilege of performing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, working alongside the most renowned conductors of our time.
In addition to his role at OSESP, Silvério is a faculty member at the OSESP Music Academy, a member of the Camaleon Bassoons group, and regularly leads his own jazz quartet. His discography reflects this artistic duality, including works by Francisco Mignone’s Concertino for Bassoon and Orchestra (Naxos) and his original jazz album, Entre Mundos - Alexandre Silvério Quintet.
Since 2018, Alexandre Silvério has been a Püchner Artist, performing on the Model Superior bassoon. Whether in grand concert halls or intimate jazz clubs, his work continues to expand the boundaries of the bassoon, proving that tradition and improvisation can thrive together.
